Gluten Free Slow Cooker Apple Crisp

Summer is coming and that means summer time desserts and treats. The beauty of apple crisp is you can eat it warm or cold. So it’s perfect for the summer. This recipe is simple and you don’t even have to watch the oven. You can set it and go outside and play and come back in when its finished. Like all the other recipes there will be a printable down at the bottom that is just ingredients and instructions. But lets get on with the recipe shall we.

5 granny smith apples

juice of 1 lemon

1/2 cup of sugar

1 tbsp of vanilla

1 tsp of cinnamon

1 tsp baking powder

1 cup of gluten free oats

1 cup of gluten free all purpose flour

1 1/2 cups of margarine

1 1/4 cups of brown sugar

1/2 cup of white sugar

1 tbsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1/2 tsp salt

Okay first I set up my crockpot or slow cooker where it’s going to be in use so I can use it to make everything. First peel and cut your apples into chunks. Putting them all in the crockpot.

Next you are going to add the rest of your ingredients for the apples right into the crock pot.

First add in the lemon so your apples don’t turn brown. Make sure to mix it all with a rubber spatula so you don’t hurt your pot.

Next I added in the sugar and mixed it all in.

The next ones I just added them in and mixed it all at once. I added the cinnamon, baking powder and vanilla in next.

Make sure to mix it up nice and well and then you can let it sit while you work on the topping without worrying about the apples turning.

To make the topping make sure that you use a large bowl… I didn’t and had to switch it to a different one half way through.

First add in your gluten free oats. I used Bob Red Mill’s.

Next I added in Bob Red Mills Gluten Free All Purpose Flour.

And the next thing I added was the margarine and that’s where I noticed I needed a new bowl.

Next was the rest of the ingredients. The brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.

Now mix it all together. Make sure everything is incorporated.

All that is left is to put it on top of your apples. I smeared it on with the same spatula I used. I made sure all the apples were covered.

All that’s left is to put on the lid and start cooking. You can either cook it on high for 3 hours or low for 6 hours it’s up to you.

When it’s finished it might look like this and thats okay.

What you need to do is very carefully mix it all together and everything will start smelling amazingly.

Now all that is left is to eat it. You can enjoy it warm with some delicious vanilla ice cream or you can have it cold all by itself. Well, until next time Happy Eating!
